WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS IF YOU DONATED BLOOD?

July is the National Blood Donation Month, PNRC is encouraging healthy individuals to participate in this noble act, YES, it is a noble act. It can save lives particularly those with hematologic disorders like Anemias especially Aplastic Anemias, Leukemias (blood cancer), Hemophilia (bleeding disorder) and Thalassemia and those with massive blood loss due to major surgery, miscarriage or childbirth, and gastrointestinal bleeding. Blood donation is beneficial not just to the recipient but to the donor as well. Here are some of the health benefits if we donate blood: You will receive vital health checks which include blood pressure, pulse rate and body temperature. You are able to get screened for the communicable diseases such as HIV virus (AIDS), Hepatitis B and C virus (Jaundice), Malaria Parasite, Syphilis and also blood groups. It reduces the chances of ischemic heart diseases (beginning of heart problems) as frequent donations reduce the accumulated and unwanted iron load from the body. Blood donation is 100% safe. It has no possibility of getting communicable diseases since blood collecting set and needles used are sterile and also disposable. Our society is today threatened by scarcity of blood. Blood can't be manufactured nor can be synthesized. So let's save lives, share our blood and be a Good Samaritan.
